Actor James Franco is headed to "30 Rock." News that the actor will guest-star on the hit show, which brags a very impressive slew of past guest stars, is nowhere near as shocking as that weird stint on "General Hospital" he's insisting on doing. We guess at the end of the day, Franco realized that he'd had it with hanging at a fake hospital and was ready to hang on a real television show about a fake television show.

Former "30 Rock" guest stars have included Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Martin, Jon Hamm and Jerry Seinfeld, as well as a recurring role by Salma Hayek. We're not sure "General Hospital" has quite as impressive a guest star list.

Franco's storyline will focus on a fake relationship he has with Jenna (Jane Krakowski), arranged by the actors' agents. In other words, Franco will be playing himself, which is great, because their really is nothing Franco is funnier at than playing his perpetually high self. (Not that he wasn't great in "Milk," but he sure didn't make us laugh.)

No word yet on how long Franco's stint on "30 Rock" will be, but it sounds like a one-time thing to us. Besides, Franco doesn't have time to waste on one show, it will hold him back from making new, cryptic career moves. We're sure in no time he'll be guest-hosting "The Price is Right," and when that's over, we imagine that somewhere in the city, there's a black-box theater putting on the "Vagina Monologues," and Franco simply has to get in on that.

Franco's two-month stint on "General Hospital" is set to begin airing shortly. We're sure it will mean a ratings spike for the show if for no other reason than the millions of Franco fans who are compelled to sit in front of their televisions and say, "What the hell is he doing?"
